The most famous of these four brief books, 1st John is remarkable for its profound teachings and memorable passages, such as: "But if we confess our sins to God, he can always be trusted to forgive us and take our sins away" (1 John 1.9). Written by the mature Apostle John in Ephesus, it's a wellspring of inspired wisdom about confession, forgiveness, love, temptation and faith. 2nd John is an encouragement for Christians to obey the truth and keep God's commandment to love one another. 3rd John repeats the same theme of obedience to truth with a call to avoid evil examples. Jude is a short powerful appeal to defend the faith from false teachers with a warning to the ungodly and an encouragement to the faithful.
