 The Wisdom of God

Verses for the Day:

Proverbs 23:27-28 (KJV):
27 For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit.
28 She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men.

Proverbs 23:27-28 (AMP):
27 For a harlot is a deep ditch, and a loose woman is a narrow pit.
28 She also lies in wait as a robber or as one waits for prey, and she increases the treacherous among men.

Thoughts for the Day:

These verses in Proverbs are a warning from a father to his son to avoid the snare of being seduced by a whore. Verse 27 describes the plight of one who is ensnared by a whore, or harlot, as getting stuck in a deep ditch or falling into a narrow pit. Anyone who has gotten stuck in a deep ditch knows that it is not easy to get out of it.  In fact, most of the time it takes other people to come and help you get out of a treacherous ditch or a narrow pit. Men who fornicate or commit adultery with a whore are opening themselves up to receive demons from their sexual encounters, which then will create a supernatural pit, that only the greater power of God can get them out of. Many men, thinking that a night of sex will simply be a good time of harmless pleasure, awaken from this lie to find themselves in real trouble.

Not only is there a danger of contracting a venereal disease that is incurable, but men who have their affair discovered have been known to lose their wives and families because of their unfaithfulness. Shame and embarrassment also come with the discovery of cohabiting with a harlot.  There is also the spiritual bondage of perverted sex and unnatural pornographic desires. This is a hell many good men wish they had never entertained. The Bible warns that a man will take on the harlot's flesh and her sin.

1 Corinthians 6:13-20 & 7:1-2:
13 Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.
14 And God hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power.
15 Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid.
16 What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.
17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.
18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
7:1 Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: It is good for a man not to touch a woman.
2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.

God can rescue men who have fallen into this pit, if they will humble themselves to God and cry out to Him for deliverance.  They may need deliverance prayers said over them to get them free. If they are in deep sin, they may need demons of lust cast out of them.  In our study, verse 28 tells us that the wicked women in the world, who are whores, are like robbers who are waiting to steal from men and drag them into a treacherous life also.  However, there is hope for both the man and the harlot. God hates the sin of lust, but He loves the sinner, and will set them free if they come to Him.  The harlot is in bondage to the devil's bidding and also needs God's delivering power in her life.

Remember the story of the woman at the well in John 4 who was living in fornication when she met Jesus.  Jesus told her about her life and offered her living water.  She not only gave her heart to the Lord, but she became a great witness to the love of God.  Jesus did not condemn her, but showed her the way to find everlasting life. There is another woman in John 8 who was caught in the very act of adultery, and Jesus' words spared her life from the crowd who was ready to stone her, when He said, "He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her."  Then, there was the harlot, Rahab, in Joshua 2, whose life was saved because she hid two spies who were sent by Joshua.  Because she reached out to help God's people, her life and her family's lives were spared, when Joshua attacked the city of Jericho.

God is a loving and forgiving God who desires to set free all those who have fallen into the sin of sexual lust and perversion.

Prayer for the Day:

Dear Heavenly Father, Please help the young men and women in our day not to yield to the temptation of a lustful life.  Lord, there are so many sexual temptations everywhere, keep those who desire to walk with You from falling into the traps of the devil. Lord, also deliver those who are already in bondage to sexual sins and perversions. I especially pray for those who have fallen into the deep pit of pornography.  God have mercy on them, and grant them the power of the Holy Spirit to find their way out and to overcome the bondage of this addictive evil.  Deliver our world from the sexual sins that are destroying our societies.  I ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
